Starting Small to make a BIG difference

Welcome to Volunteer Effingham! We’re an idea — a dream, really.

We hope to encourage small groups of friends, small churches, and even small businesses and organizations to get involved in Effingham county and make a difference for our residents.

Often times, smaller groups or even individuals are at a loss when needs are great and resources are small. Volunteer Effingham hopes to alleviate the “We’re too small. We can’t make a difference!” feeling in folks and replace it with ownership for a portion of a larger community-wide project or even just knowledge of needs within the community and an empowerment to meet them.

To that end, we’re starting small by ‘adopting’ classrooms within the Effingham County school system as our first community initiative and donating supplies to them.  (Check out our Community Initiatives page)

Why are We Doing This?

Honestly, it’s simple. This community outreach is being started by a member of a small congregation in the area. Tiny churches often feel like their contributions won’t make enough of a difference or that they need to give to a larger organization (and thus lose ‘ownership’ of their part of the outreach) to make much of an impact.

More often than not, they will choose to forego involvement rather than feel like they are wasting efforts or just contributing to an outreach with no real ownership of it.

Hopefully, this will solve a bit of that conundrum.

Our desire is to help individuals and smaller organizations contribute in smaller portions to a larger overall outreach, retain ownership over their portion, and reap the benefits of making a large difference!

We also envision this website as a hub for information on community needs (from larger non-profits and county-wide organizations) that would allow individuals and groups to keep their finger on the pulse of volunteer opportunities in Effingham. This will assist the individual (maybe a high school senior needing volunteer hours for scholarships) or groups (small churches and businesses) with awareness and information contained within an easy one-stop location.
